Smurfit Kappa is one of the world’s leading providers of paper-based packaging, with operations across Europe and the Americas. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company sought additional measures to protect employees at its manufacturing facilities in Brno and Olomouc while improving indoor air quality in areas where staff regularly gathered.
Protecting employees from airborne contaminants became a priority for Smurfit Kappa during the pandemic. Changing rooms and canteen areas presented particular concerns because employees gathered closely in these spaces throughout the day. The changing rooms also served as an entry point to the main manufacturing areas, creating an opportunity to reduce contaminants before employees entered production spaces.
Smurfit Kappa needed an air purification solution capable of providing continuous protection without disrupting normal operations.Following surveys of both manufacturing facilities, Airius PureAir units were installed in changing rooms and canteen areas. Positioning the units within the changing rooms provided air and surface purification while employees changed into work uniforms before entering production areas.
Additional units were installed within the canteens, where larger numbers of employees gathered during breaks. The PureAir system provided continuous air circulation and purification while also helping recirculate warm air that accumulated at ceiling level.The installation provided Smurfit Kappa with an additional level of air purification throughout some of its highest-occupancy employee areas.
