Improving Air Circulation and Temperature Control with Destratification Fans for Armories

Armories often combine large drill halls, equipment and vehicle storage areas, workshops, offices, and secure storage spaces within a single facility. High ceilings and large open areas can make maintaining consistent temperatures difficult, particularly in buildings that operate intermittently or were constructed decades ago.

Airius destratification fans can help redistribute conditioned air, reduce temperature stratification, and support existing heating and cooling systems throughout appropriate areas of the facility.

Challenge

The Challenge

Large armory spaces can develop significant temperature differences between floor and ceiling level. During colder months, heated air naturally rises and collects overhead while personnel and equipment remain at floor level.

Drill halls, vehicle bays, workshops, and storage areas can also experience stagnant air and heat buildup during warmer conditions. HVAC systems may run longer in an attempt to maintain comfortable temperatures without addressing how conditioned air is distributed throughout the space.

Secure equipment and weapons-storage areas may have additional environmental requirements, making controlled and predictable airflow especially important.

Solution

The Airius Solution

Airius fans can provide targeted air circulation throughout large armory spaces, helping return conditioned air to occupied levels and improve overall temperature consistency without requiring extensive ductwork modifications.

For armories, two Airius systems are particularly well suited.

Air Pear Series

Air Pear EC Series

The Air Pear EC Series is well suited for drill halls, storage areas, equipment rooms, and other large spaces with high ceilings. Multiple models accommodate ceiling heights ranging from approximately 15 to 100 feet, allowing the system to be selected around the specific dimensions of the facility. Its focused columnar airflow helps move accumulated ceiling air back toward occupied levels, while EC motors provide variable-speed operation and integration with BACnet or 0–10V building controls.

Onyx Fans

Onyx EC Series

The Onyx EC Series is a strong option for vehicle bays, maintenance areas, workshops, and large equipment-storage spaces where more powerful circulation or cooling is required. Designed specifically for large spaces and cooling applications, standard Onyx EC models can provide coverage up to approximately 2,000 square feet and serve ceilings up to 50 feet. Variable-speed controls allow airflow to be adjusted according to seasonal conditions and facility use

Results

Potential Results

A properly designed Airius installation could help reduce ceiling-level heat accumulation, improve temperature consistency throughout drill halls and storage areas, increase comfort for personnel, improve circulation in large open spaces, and help existing HVAC systems distribute conditioned air more effectively.

Better air distribution may also reduce unnecessary heating and cooling demand in facilities where large volumes of conditioned air would otherwise remain trapped above the occupied zone.

Arm Your Armory with better airflow

Every armory has different ceiling heights, equipment layouts, storage requirements, security considerations, and HVAC systems. Airius systems can be selected and positioned around those conditions, with airflow designed to support the facility without interfering with secure storage, fire-protection systems, vehicle exhaust systems, or other operational requirements.

The objective is to make better use of conditioned air throughout the facility while maintaining the security and operational requirements of the armory.
