Unconventional Use of Airius Fans

Since Airius introduced its destratification fans to the market in 2004, customers have continually found innovative ways to use the technology beyond its original intent. Designed to equalize temperatures within a space, Airius fans have also been leveraged in unconventional applications to solve unique environmental challenges.

Two compelling examples illustrate how Airius fans have been repurposed to address specific issues—one in a high-humidity fitness center and another in an iconic entertainment studio setting.

In November 2021, Scott Russell, the owner of Cross Gates Family Fitness in Slidell, Louisiana, sought a solution to an ongoing issue: excessive humidity in the area was causing persistent condensation to form on the gym’s ceiling. Despite multiple mitigation attempts, the problem persisted.

Through independent research, Russell discovered Airius Air Pear fans and devised a creative solution. Instead of installing the fans in their traditional destratification configuration, he proposed mounting them upside down at a lower position on the walls, directing airflow upward to disrupt condensation formation on the ceiling.

After consulting with Airius representatives, Russell implemented the strategy using four Model A-25 fans and two Model A-45 fans. Within just two days of installation, he confirmed the success of the approach—eliminating condensation and maintaining a drier, more comfortable environment. Today, this unconventional method remains in use, demonstrating the versatility of Airius fans beyond their primary function.

In December 2018, the Imagineering team at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, explored another unique use case for Airius fans. While destratification fans were already being utilized in various attractions, including the Star Wars and Toy Story features, the team saw an opportunity to enhance airflow in backlot studios that lacked sufficient air conditioning.

To address the challenge of cooling large, unconditioned spaces in Florida’s humid climate, the Imagineering team integrated Model A-100 Air Pear fans with custom ductwork attached to the nozzle. This approach successfully channeled air throughout the studios, improving circulation and creating a more comfortable working environment for production teams. During a site visit, Airius representatives observed firsthand the effectiveness of this adaptation.

These case studies highlight the adaptability of Airius fans beyond traditional destratification. Whether addressing humidity control, optimizing airflow in unconventional spaces, or enhancing temperature management, Airius technology continues to provide innovative solutions across diverse industries. As customers discover new ways to apply destratification principles, Airius fans remain a valuable asset in advancing modern airflow and climate control strategies.
